National School Counseling Week takes place February 2–6, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to highlight and celebrate the important role school counseling programs play in supporting our students’ academic growth, emotional well-being, and future readiness.
This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” truly reflects the many ways our counselors support students every day:
- Academically: School counselors help students set goals, stay motivated, and develop strategies for success, whether learning comes easily or requires extra support.
- Emotionally: Counselors provide a safe space for students to talk through stress, anxiety, and everyday challenges, helping them build resilience, balance, and self-awareness.
- Future Planning: Counselors guide students in identifying their strengths and interests while exploring future possibilities, helping them begin to envision paths that feel exciting and meaningful.
School counselors work tirelessly behind the scenes to support both students and staff. Much of their advocacy, problem-solving, and system-level work may go unseen, but it plays a critical role in meeting complex student needs and improving outcomes for all learners.
We invite our KMS families to join us in recognizing and celebrating the invaluable work of our school counselors, Ali Janowicz and Aly McAllister. Their dedication makes a lasting difference in the lives of our students every day.
