NWEA Testing will be happening Monday and Wednesday morning this week. Below are some helpful tips to prepare your students to be successful on this assessment.
Focus on effort, not scores
NWEA is designed to show growth over time. Encourage your child to do their best, take their time, and not worry about getting every question right.
Make sure they’re well rested
A good night’s sleep helps students focus and think clearly. Try to keep bedtime routines consistent .
Fuel their brain
A healthy breakfast, especially with protein, can improve concentration and stamina during longer testing sessions.
Encourage a calm mindset
Remind your child that this is not a graded test and there is no need to study. It simply helps teachers understand how to best support their learning as well as show growth over time.
Support positive self-talk
If a question feels hard, that’s okay! The test adjusts to your child’s level. Encourage them to try their best and move on if they feel stuck.
Limit stress and over-preparing
There’s no benefit to cramming. Reading, practicing math facts casually, and maintaining normal routines are more helpful than extra test prep.
Be on time and ready
Arriving at school on time helps students settle in and start the day feeling calm and prepared.
Celebrate effort
After testing, acknowledge their hard work, whether that’s words of encouragement, a favorite activity, or simply listening to how it went.
Thank you for your help and support!
